Seemingly Palasari has not yet been mentioned on Bandung city tourism guide. Domestic tourists come to Bandung for factory outlets, handfruits, foods, and hill-view — not for books. One will say this is not about Bandung itself, but in general people in Indonesia is not easy to care to books.

So, what is Palasari, anyway?

Palasari Front Side, Bandung's Book Market

It is a sub-area in Bandung well known for its book market. Palasari Market (”Pasar Palasari” in Bahasa Indonesia) is “a traditional market style” of bookstores. Inside Palasari stands tens of small kiosks (a few of them are medium size bookstores) providing broad of books, such as elementary textbooks, classical books, to used books which their titles are very difficult to find on bookstore.

But one most important thing Palasari offers is their lower price. While major bookstores sell books in standard, “formal” price as catalog says, Palasari kiosks give 10% to 30% (usually depend on publisher) discount for all books. They can reduce price to the bottomline by cutting distribution’s overhead and mass selling. While comfortableness is at their lowest level, to some book lovers who love their books rather than shopping-book ceremony. Price is price, the lower one is more important.
